Cadet Program
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue's Cadet Program is an exciting opportunity for young individuals interested in exploring a future career in the fire service. Designed for students ages 14 to 20, the year-round program provides hands-on experience, foundational training, and valuable insight into what it takes to become a firefighter or emergency medical professional.
The Cadet Program combines classroom instruction with practical, real-world training led by experienced firefighters and paramedics. Cadets participate in drills, learn basic firefighting techniques, first aid, CPR, and gain exposure to the teamwork, discipline, and dedication required in the fire rescue field.

This program not only prepares cadets for a possible future in fire rescue — it also helps build confidence, responsibility, and a strong sense of civic duty. Many former cadets go on to attend fire academies, earn EMT certifications, and eventually join Hillsborough County Fire Rescue as full-time professionals.
Eligibility:
Ages 14–20
Enrolled in school and maintaining good academic standing
Pass a background screening and obtain parental/guardian consent (if under 18)
